Four years, 14x traffic: an organic growth story

Eurochange is one of the UK’s best-known bureau de change and travel money brands, with a UK-wide network of stores and a busy online currency converter and travel money site. We’ve worked with alongside Lantra them for four years now, and looking back at the independently-tracked numbers (via Semrush, not just our own reporting) tells a story worth sharing: a slow, deliberate build that turned into genuinely compounding growth.

Where we started

In July 2022, eurochange.co.uk ranked for around 13,900 keywords and pulled an estimated 108,000 organic visits a month. It held roughly 1,000 top-3 rankings and 1,400 in positions 4–10. It was a solid, functional presence, but nowhere near its potential given the sheer size of the market it sits in: currency conversion is one of the highest-volume search categories there is.

Phase one: laying the foundations (2022–2023)

The strategy from day one was to properly build out the currency converter itself — not as one generic tool, but as a dedicated, indexable page for every major currency pair people actually search for. Terms like “pound to euro,” “dollars to pounds,” and “gbp to inr” carry search volumes in the hundreds of thousands, and some — “pound to inr” alone — sit above a million searches a month. Building genuine topical coverage across that keyword space, rather than relying on one converter tool page to rank for all of it, was the foundation everything else was built on.

That first year and a half wasn’t a straight line. Keyword counts climbed steadily through 2022, then 2023 turned choppy: traffic swung between roughly 150,000 and 300,000 a month, including a sharp spike to 307,000 in March 2023 that pulled back just as quickly the following month. Growing into a highly competitive, YMYL-adjacent space (anything touching money attracts extra scrutiny from Google) rarely goes in a straight line, and this was that volatility playing out in real time.

Phase two: the breakout (2024–2026)

From early 2024 onward, the volatility gave way to sustained, compounding growth. Ranking keywords went from around 48,000 at the end of 2023 to over 116,000 by the end of 2024. Organic traffic followed the same curve: roughly 169,000 a month in December 2023, past 400,000 by April 2024, through 700,000 by October 2024, and past the 900,000 mark in early 2025.

That growth has held. As of this year, eurochange.co.uk is ranking for around 110,000–150,000 keywords month to month and pulling an estimated 1.3–1.6 million organic visits a month — a roughly 14x increase in expected traffic and an 8x increase in ranking keywords compared to where things stood four years ago. Top-3 rankings alone have grown 10x, from around 1,000 to over 10,000, and positions 4–10 have grown nearly 28x.

What’s actually driving it

The keyword data shows exactly why: the top traffic-generating pages are the individual currency converter pairs — GBP to INR, USD to GBP, GBP to EUR, GBP to USD, EUR to GBP, and dozens more — each now ranking on page one for search terms with enormous volume.

The brand name itself and core travel money terms like “euro exchange rate” and “buy euros,” round out the picture, showing the informational converter traffic is translating into genuine brand and commercial visibility too, not just passing footfall.

Where things stand

Four years in, eurochange.co.uk has gone from a functional currency site to one of the most visible currency-conversion destinations in UK search, verified independently rather than just self-reported.

The lesson we’d point to for any brand sitting on a big, unglamorous transactional keyword space: build the coverage properly, expect a bumpy middle period while Google works out how much to trust you, and don’t mistake a flat year for a failed strategy — sometimes it’s just the run-up.
